Our Quick Guide to Product Care

Product Care

Looking after your soft leather accessory will extend its wear.

Please find a checklist to keep your leather product in the best condition possible and take action with various scenarios.

General Cleaning

To clean your leather product, wipe it with a soft and dampened cloth. Never use soap or solvent.

Never use baby wipes, vinegar or any other ‘home remedy' for cleaning. Many of these products have chemicals and substances in them that can cause drying or colour loss.

A leather protector can be used to extend wear, although do not apply to “Hair on” products.

Every few months rub a leather cream into the leather to restore its lustre. Keep the bag clean as much as possible and do not leave in direct sunlight as this will affect the colour of your item.

Try not to overfill your bag as it will lose its shape. Avoid contact with toiletries, cosmetics and sun cream. Store all your cosmetics in a cosmetic bag so should a top come lose it wont stain or damage your bag, frequently permanently. Also be careful with the lids on your pens and water bottles, ensure they are secure!

Finally be careful if you have just applied hand cream, oils from moisturisers can damage the leather on the handle. Carry your bag over your shoulder whenever possible.

What If my leather accessory gets wet?

It is important to keep your soft leather handbag or purse dry but it is inevitable that it will get wet, particularly when using in the rain.

Wipe with a soft absorbent cloth, stuff with tissue paper and leave to dry naturally in a cool dark place. Please be aware that force drying will damage the product as well as over-stretching.

Do not dry your accessory with direct sources of heat such as radiators, heaters, airing cupboards etc. Leaving your product damp or exposed to heat could cause the leather to warp and lose its shape.

When the leather is dry apply a neutral leather cream to restore back to its original condition.

Sunlight

Store leather away from direct sunlight to prevent the colour from fading, you may also wish to feed it from time to time with a little leather wax.

Storage

To keep your soft leather bag or accessory looking their best, store them in a dust bag, preferably in a cupboard. If not in use for periods stuff it with bubble wrap or paper to maintain its shape. Do not use newspapers.

Scratches

The finish will scratch, so try to avoid any contact with any abrasive surfaces. To make sure the finish stays looking as good as possible, please don't use any solvents or cleaning products on your semi-veg smooth bags and accessories.

Ink

If you get ink on your bag take it to a leather repair shop. Trying to remove ink yourself it will often make things worse. Applying a leather protector or leather cream will help to repel ink,

Colour transfer

Please take care when wearing light coloured clothing as the natural dyeing process may cause some colour transfer. Similarly take extra care when wearing strong colours or dyed fabrics as the colour can transfer onto the bag.

If you have purchased new jeans it is best to wash them first to avoid colour transfer from the dye.

Be particularly careful when wearing a light- coloured bag.

A leather protector will help protect against colour transfer.

The best way to clean your product is with a soft dry cotton cloth.

Lappella cannot assume responsibility for the eventual deterioration and mishandling of the product. However, If you have any questions or want any further specific information please don’t hesitate to contact us, we will always be pleased to help you.
