Leather Care
Leather Care Guide
How do I clean soft leather?
Use a soft, damp cloth (not soaking), with mild soap or Lappella leather cleaner. Wipe gently and rinse with a clean damp cloth. Dry with a towel and let air‑dry away from direct heat or sunlight. Once fully dry, apply a leather conditioner to nourish and protect the leather. Always test products in an inconspicuous area first.
What should I avoid when cleaning?
Never use baby wipes, vinegar, or other home remedies—they can cause drying and colour loss. Avoid harsh chemicals or soap that could harm the leather.
What if my bag gets wet?
Blot excess moisture immediately with a soft cloth—don’t rub. Leave to air dry in a cool, shaded spot. For heavy wetting, use a hair dryer on low, moving constantly, then condition when dry.
How can I protect the leather?
Use Lappella’s leather protector spray on cleaned and dry leather—apply evenly without dripping, reapply until water beads off. Avoid using on “hair‑on” styles.
How often should I condition?
Every few months, rub in a neutral leather conditioner to restore softness, prevent cracking, and maintain luster—especially after cleaning or when leather feels dry.
How do I fix stains or scuffs?
For oil stains, sprinkle baking soda or cornstarch and leave overnight, then brush gently. For watermarks, dampen and blend with room‑temp water. For dye transfer, use mild soap with lukewarm water and dry thoroughly.
How should I store my leather bag?
Keep in a dust bag or breathable cotton pouch, loosely stuffed with tissue to maintain shape. Store away from sun or heat. Avoid plastic storage which traps moisture. Occasionally air it if stored long-term.
How can I remove creases?
Gently warm the area with a hair dryer (low) and massage with hands. Alternatively place a damp cloth and press lightly or use a leather conditioner to soften the crease. Always spot test first.
What about ink or colour transfer?
Never try aggressive treatments at home—ink should be professionally removed. Light-colour bags should be protected using the leather protector spray and careful with dyed fabrics.
What products does Lappella recommend?
Lappella offers a Leather Care Kit—which includes: Cleaner (~£5.50), Conditioner (~£5.95), and Protector (~£7.95). The kit combines all three for complete maintenance.
